In alignment with the Prime Minister’s Poshan Abhiyaan, Vedanta ESL Steel Limited has launched a Millet-based Nutri-Shake Distribution Program across all 50 Nand Ghars in Jharkhand. This initiative coincides with Rashtriya Poshan Maah, a vital component aimed at curbing malnutrition in India. Project Nand Ghar, envisioned by Vedanta Chairman Mr. Anil Agarwal, embodies this commitment, promoting nutrition delivery among children.
The Nutri-Shake Distribution Program focuses on providing children with nutritious millet shakes, rich in essential vitamins and minerals to promote healthy growth and development. By distributing over 10,000 millet protein shakes, the program supports the government’s mission to reduce malnutrition and raise awareness about balanced nutrition from an early age.
The protein-dense millet shakes, manufactured by startup Millet Bowl, are chocolate-flavoured, FSSAI-certified, and rich in 23 essential vitamins and minerals. Designed to be dairy-free and easy to consume, the shakes incorporate Ragi, Bajra, Foxtail, and Kodu, along with jaggery, plant protein isolates, cocoa powder, and coconut milk powder, ensuring long-lasting nutritional support with a six-month shelf life.
At the launch event, attended by Ms. Meenakshi Sabharwal (CQO), Mr. Kunal Daripa (Head CSR), and Ms. Abha Kumari (Health Councillor at Bokaro Sadar Hospital), participants were educated about nutrition, anemia, and balanced diets. The event also featured the God Bharai ceremony for expecting mothers and the Anna Prasan ceremony for a six-month-old child.
Mr. Kunal Daripa (Head, CSR) remarked, “Through the 50 Nand Ghars in Jharkhand, we strive to nurture the future of the community by addressing the critical issue of childhood malnutrition. With this program, we are providing nutrient-rich, traditional superfoods that align with the Prime Minister’s Poshan Abhiyaan, ensuring that children attending Nand Ghars receive the nourishment they deserve.”

Nand Ghars is an imitative undertaken by Vedanta ESL Steel Limited under the Anil Agarwal Foundation together with the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD). The project which numbers 50 in Jharkhand state, aims at ensuring rural India is not left behind in India’s march towards progress. This project focuses on transforming traditional Anganwadis into modern resource centers for child development and women empowerment. Nandghars provides holistic support to children in the age group of 0-6 years by focusing on nutrition, early childhood education, and healthcare. Equipped with solar panels, digital learning facilities, and clean drinking water, Nandghars also serve as platforms for skill development and health awareness programs for women, contributing to overall community upliftment.
