Bokaro (Khaber Aajtak) : Vedanta ESL Steel Limited organised a Walkathon in Bokaro City today in support of the cause of #RunForZeroHunger. The walkathon was organised to popularise the vision of Zero Hunger for all in India and the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon which is organised by in Delhi every year by the Vedanta Group.
Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon and its goal
Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon, which will see its third edition on 20th October this year, is organised in support of the cause of #RunForZeroHunger. The marathon which saw a participation of over 35,000 runners in its last edition, has various race categories including Half Marathon, Open 10K Run, Great Delhi Run, Senior Citizens’ Run, Elite Participation and Champions with Disability Run.
Vedanta has also committed of providing 1 meal to children for every 1 km run. These meals will be served across Vedanta’s network of nearly 6,000 Nand Ghars – 150 of which are in Jharkhand and is supported by ESL Steel Limited. Nand Ghar initiative is the flagship social impact programme of Vedanta’s Anil Agarwal Foundation and operates across 14 states in India. It entails modernizing Anganwadis and helping in nutritional needs of children, expecting and lactating mothers.
Event Highlights
Today’s walkathon saw the participation of people from all walks of life including the city’s SDO Mr. Om Prakash Gupta (IAS), Mr. Ashish Kumar Gupta (WTD & CEO, ESL Steel Limited), Mr Anand Dubey (CFO, ESL Steel Limited), Mr Ravish Sharma (COO, ESL Steel Limited), Ms. Shyamalee Minz (CHRO, ESL Steel Limited) and Mr. Ashish Bhardwaj (CCO, ESL Steel Limited) apart from the active participation of around 300 ESL Steel Limited employees.
Today was Gandhiji’s Jayanti, so at the Gandhi Statue which fell on the walkathon’s route all those who participated in the walk paid their respects and the company’s management spoke about his great personality and how can we inculcate some of his qualities in our daily life. Another of India’s great son, Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji’s was also born today and everyone paid their obeisance to the great soul at his statue.
At the culmination, the top three winners of the walkathon were felicitated. The top position was of Lagan Hansda followed by Ravindra Kumar Pandey and Vijay Sindhu, who is also the Chief Security Officer of ESL Steel Limited. This was followed by writing motivational quotes on pledge wall and certificate distribution to the organizing team.

We want to make #RunForZeroHunger a mass movement involving every Indian, just like we want every Anganwadi in this country to become a modern Nand Ghar. This walkathon that we organised today is just a step in that right direction.”
