Bokaro:The Chitragupt Mahaparivar has decided to honor 85-year-old Sergeant Major Shri Sudhir Kumar Ambasth, a two-time recipient of the President’s Medal and former General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Chitragupt Mahaparivar, who retired from the Bihar Government. He was instrumental in initiating the first public Chitragupt Puja in Bokaro post-Emergency in 1977 at the Sector 3 Club.
In an interview with Sandesh Sarita, Shri Ambasth recalled that during the Emergency, all forms of social and cultural activities were restricted. After arriving in Bokaro in 1976, he learned that public Chitragupt Puja used to take place at Sector 3 Club before the Emergency. Undeterred by the prevailing fear in the city, he took the initiative to revive the tradition. Under his leadership, the first public puja post-Emergency was held at the Sector 3 Community Hall in 1977. The event was a great success and led to other sector committees across Bokaro gradually organizing their own public pujas, a tradition that continues to this day.
Chief Advisor Arun Sinha stated that Shri Ambasth played a crucial role in uniting the community under one banner and strengthening the society through his vision, suggestions, and organizational skills. As a result, the Chitragupt Mahaparivar flourished and became strong enough that in 1978, the Bokaro Steel Plant allocated land to the Sector 8 and 9 committee to run the Dr. Rajendra Prasad Public School.
It was also on his suggestion that after the puja in Sector 3, cultural programs followed by a community feast were introduced, where families gathered to interact, participate in performances, and enjoy the feast together, further strengthening community bonds.
Chief Advisor Arun Sinha and Joint Treasurer Raj Srivastava personally handed him the invitation and announced that Chitragupt Mahaparivar Bokaro will honor and pay tribute to such veteran guides of the society. Shri Ambasth will be formally felicitated on April 27.
