Indian Red Cross Society, Bokaro has certified ESL Steel Limited as the highest blood donating organisation in Bokaro District
Bokaro (Khaber Aajtak): ESL Steel Limited, a Vedanta Group Company and a leading integrated steel producer in India, continues its unwavering commitment to societal and community development. Acknowledged with numerous awards and felicitations from various national and international governmental bodies and NGOs, ESL Steel Limited motivates Employee Volunteering Initiatives, especially when it is about health and wellness of the community around us.
One such ESL Steel Limited’s employee volunteering initiative ‘V for Society’ has been organising an annual voluntary Blood Donation Camp for some years. This year too, the Blood Donation Camp was organised under the aegis of ‘V for Society’ in association with Indian Red Cross Society, Bokaro, ESL Steel Limited’s CSR Department and its project implementing partner Citizens Foundation.
By the end of the day the number of units collected was more than 120 at the Blood Donation Camp. The Voluntary Blood Donation saw participation from complete cross-section of employees of the ESL Steel Limited’s Siyaljori plant – whether they were Workers, Contractual Labourers, Staff, Technicians, Officers, Business Partners, and even Management level employees. Some who came to the venue also could not donate since they were screened first and if it was not deemed right health-wise for them to part with their blood.
By the end of today’s Blood Donation Camp at ESL Steel Limited’s Siyaljori Plant premises, ESL Steel Limited has become the highest blood donating organisation in Bokaro District. This has been certified by Indian Red Cross Society, Bokaro and the delegation which was here from Indian Red Cross Society felicitated those who were at the forefront of organising this camp.
Dr Dinesh Kumar, Civil Surgeon, Bokaro took time out of his busy schedule to be present at the occasion as the Chief Guest, who also made the point of “How Important is Blood in our lives”. Dr U C Mohanty, Head of Indian Red Cross Society, Bokaro was the Guest of Honour and he graciously helped those present at the Venue understand the reasons why blood donation is so important and how a body gets stronger after blood donation; and Ms. Kanchan, District Data Manager, National Health Mission, Bokaro was so gracious that she travelled to the Plant premises to further motivate volunteers to make the donation and pointed out how it was more healthy to donate blood than to not donate.

All those who participated during the Blood Donation Camp, whether as a volunteer to organise the Event, or to donate their blood, or even those were requested to come to motivate those around or to spread the right type of information and knowledge – all had positive feedback which underscores the impact of ESL Steel Limited’s ‘V for Society’ initiatives on community’s health.
