Bokaro (Khaber Aajtak) : Vedanta ESL Steel Limited has engaged in various initiatives inside and outside its Siyaljori, Bokaro located plant premises to celebrate the Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign which has been announced by Government of India to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
In alignment with Government Initiatives
Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, started on 17th September 2024, is centered on the theme ‘Swabhav Swachhata – Sanskar Swachhata’ and emphasizes the importance of cleanliness and community participation in creating a sustainable and healthy environment. This campaign aims to enhance awareness on sanitation and encourages responsible environmental practices such as waste management and tree plantation.
Focus on Cleanliness
Today, in alignment with these aims, many employees of Vedanta ESL participated voluntarily in a Cleanliness and Plantation Drive at the Primary School, Alkusha. Apart from engaging around 50 Vedanta ESL employees, the event’s objective was to induce the participation of students, teachers, community members in cleaning and greening the school environment. The basic notion was to foster environmental consciousness, improve hygiene and instil civic responsibility which would be beneficial to both the school and the surrounding community.

A Swachhta oath was taken by all present pledging their participation in cleanliness and greening the environment including the Chief Guest of the occasion, Mr. Philmoon Bilung (District Development Magistrate, NABARD) and notable attendees like Mr. Rohit Rajak (Mukhiya, Alkusa Panchayat), Mr. Babloo Chaubey (Social Worker, Madhuniya Panchayat), Ms Shyamolee Minz (CHRO, ESL Steel Limited), Mr. Amal Ghosh (Director, Expansion Growth Project, ESL) and Mr. Kunal Daripa (Head CSR ESL Steel Limited). Later, before dispersing, over 100 saplings were planted near the school under the “Ek Ped Maa ke Naam” plantation drive.
Initiatives inside Plant premises
Many Vedanta ESL Steel employees participated in Swachhta Slogan, Quiz & Poster campaign and many in a unique community walking drive called Plalking. During plalking people walk picking up litter on their way – a combination which has taken 100 countries by storm since it helps in burning more calories while cleaning the route. Also, a similar Swachhta Oath was taken by the attendees on cleanliness and environment consciousness.
Commitment towards Cleanliness
Mr. Kunal Daripa, Head CSR, stated on the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign initiatives in and around the plant, “We at Vedanta ESL strongly believe in cleanliness. Earlier we had taken many initiatives to inculcate this practice in all our employees – whether a departmental head or a staff member and now it is bearing fruits. Cleanliness is now part of Vedanta ESL culture and we are proud of it.
